The Urban Hill Climb is Back!

The other day I saw a tweet that made me happy.

The Urban Hill Climb, organised by Rollapaluza was last ran in 2012. In 2013 there seemed to be some issues with Haringay Council and their support for the event. The organisers had said that they did not get the necessary support from the local authorities for the event to take place in a safe manner, or something along those lines.

The Urban Hill Climb is a timed event (time trial) and takes place along Swain’s Lane which is on the west side of Highgate Cemetary. It is about 900 meters long, it has an average gradient of 7% and maximum of 18%. It starts easy and then it gets steeper. Usually you blow at the flatter part because it feels very easy and then you are dead by the time you reach the steep second half. Well, that’s what I did, anyway.

I managed to not finish last, which for it was great! My official time was 03:31.860. If you really want to see the full results feel free. Just remember to scroll to the bottom in order to find me. :)

This year, on 1 October, the Rollapaluza Urban Hill Climb will be back. I’ll be there to claim the last position.

*Many thanks to Anthony from AEPhotos that resent me the photo I had lost.
